A great deal of attention will also be focussed on the Ariënsplein, the square in front of the hospital, ensureing functional renewal, high-quality architecture and spatial quality.

From hospital to city campus
Connect-U lies in the heart of Enschede, connecting communities and networks through innovation, creativity and opportunities. It houses co-working spots for start-ups, freelancers, flex-workers and SME’s, flexible office spaces for bigger companies and living spaces for starters on the real estate market. Connect-U is an innovative hub where modern urban design, co-housing, co-working and pleasure go hand in hand with all modern services and amenities.
The project was initiated by LIFE.NL (LIVE NV and IMMOPROMO) in 2016 with the purchase of hospital Stadsmaten at the Ariensplein. In collaboration with the municipality of Enschede a new assignment was drafted where the hospital would get a rebirth.
The building was partly sold to Xior Student Housing in 2018, partly to XL-Fund in 2020 (90% Xior – 10 % LIFE) and is being developed by LIFE.be and Dubbel-L Ontwikkelaars.
